When I was a child my mother forbade my father from buying me any kind of toy gun. I assume it was out of fear that a cap gun would make me grow up to be a professional killer (I wish, they make some serious cash I hear and have alot of travel). This annoyed my father as he grew up in the 50s when cowboys, gumshoe detectives, and there gun totting brethren ruled the media.
I was a boy, and as such, I was naturally attracted to the idea of playing games involving less then real guns. My mother finally gave in when she caught me shooting my brother with a puzzle piece in the shape of Florida (educational toys have some fun uses.)
I have yet to kill a man, nor has my cap gun toting father. I say let boys be boys, and understand that play is play.
any way a video that illustrates just how much times have changed is below. (look at the criminal- I think sheriff Andy Taylor will be very upset with Otis if he saw this).

WTF Wednesday: Creepy Blue Things- In Your Mouth
Ok, I know it is important to teach kids certain things about safety and what may harm them, but this is just wrong. It might just be my warped mind, but I kept getting images of deranged blue fluff balls trying to perform oral sex. This is a thing that is near the top of my list of "Not Cool THings".
But take the message of the video to heart- If you are a creep blue fluff ball, make sure it is ok before putting a thing in your mouth.

Flash Back Saturday- The Noid
Remember this guy? That is right, He's the Noid and he wants your damn Pizza. Just like a college roommate, if you leave your pie sitting around for just a second it is gone.
The thing that I really love about this marketing Icon was that some how he permeated our culture so deep, that the latest and greatest gaming system of the day, The NES, put out a game staring him I actually wanted.

Foodie Friday: Bento Boxes- Art in-gestion
Bento boxes are a tradtional Japanese (and a few other parts of asia) lunch that is carreid to work or school. As it was explained to me by 2 diffrent half Korain freinds (both have very tradtional Koreian mothers), the meals are preapared at home by the mother almost as a symbol of the level of devotion the mother has to her children and spouse. They regailed me with stories of hot dogs cut and then blanched to resible octupie, sandwiches cut in the shapes of popular cartoon charectures, and other ornaite time consuming lengths their mothers went through to produce an entertaing tribute to the love of their family. If I had a heart I would be tuched by such a sentament.
But the part that really gets my attention is the level of deatil some of these boxes have and the creative use of food and themes the makers put into them.
I submit to you the geeker examples I have found in this area.

Syfy Channel?
Check this out- Syfy
The Sci-Fi Channel has made an announcement that they will be re-branding themselves this summer as "Syfy". They will be turning to more "imagination" based programing trying to capture a larger viewing audience. This means more junk science shows about ghost and "real" sightings of Big Foot and less episodes of any number of old Star Trek shows and other classic sci-fi shows.
I like the cheese-tastic made-for-Sci-Fi movies staring the man-mosquito monster and space alien goo inhabiting a recently thawed woolly mammoth. Its geek bait. And it is exactly that geek audience that built the brand; now they are turning their back on them. Replacing Flash Gordon with UFC (like that has anything to do with sci-fi or Imagination) and TNG with Ghost Hunters. I have watched the degradation of one of my favorite networks for a while. Though they have experienced a surge in viewership recently, they are running a high risk of losing their core audience.
to them i say- Suck it Trabeck!

So I know I am a black-hole for media but...

I Love Hulu...
OK so its not the coolest place on the net, and it's legal (which goes against some of my old ways), but I just Love Hulu. There is a huge stock of shows I forgot I used to love (ALF) and ones I never got around to seeing (Kitchen Confidential). Thogh it lacks some of the good shows that are currently comming out (CBS- Where the Hell Is My Big Bang?) it has many the day after they air.
I fear this is making my media addiction more efficent and there for under control (If you don't count the fact that I now have to watch all the A-Team that is availible now)
